Surprise Glacier during

an evening low tide

All pictures in this section were taken in July and August 2005 in the stunningly beautiful Harriman Fjord in northwest Prince William Sound.  With massive tidewater and hanging glaciers that crack like thunder, huge mountains that rise from 4,000 to 10,000 above sea level, water as smooth as glass and abundant wildlife, this place is truly awesome.

Located roughly 40 miles from Anchorage (as the crow flies), Harriman Fjord is deceptively easy to visit; an hour's drive from Anchorage using North America's longest tunnel and then an hour+ boat ride or two days' kayak is all it takes.  It is without question worth it, even with all the rain.  I'll do it again.  You should follow suit.

Like the entire website, this section is divided by geography - Anchorage, Surprise Glacier, Harriman Fjord, Campsite and Barry Arm.  Hope you enjoy the kayaking pictures as much as I did taking them.
