I usually ascribe to the philosophy that a picture's shape is determined by the type of camera being used and because of that, my images are rarely cropped.  Creating panorama images, on the other hand, is the opposite of cropping.  By creating a singular picture by stitching together multiple pictures, they allow a unique perspective of the landscape.  They can also be printed out three to four times the size!
